As winter weather continues to batter much of the country, significant power outages were reported, particularly after a powerful ice storm sliced across the Midwest Wednesday. In Michigan, over 600,000 customers remained in the dark Friday.
According to outage tracker PowerOutage.US, Michigan saw more power outages than any other state as of about 6:30 p.m. ET Friday – followed by over 100,000 outages in California.
More than 110,000 outages were reported in Wayne County, home of Detroit, and over 30,000 outages were seen in Macomb County, per USA TODAY Network’s power outage tracker.
Near 80% of energy customers – over 16,000 homes and businesses – were in the dark in Hillsdale County, located in southern Michigan near the Ohio border.
Much of Michigan was under winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service, though those notices had subsided by Friday.
