California power outage map: Over 100,000 homes, businesses without power amid rare winter storm

As rare winter weather continues to batter much of California this week, more than a hundred thousand homes and businesses across the state were left in the dark early Friday.

According to PowerOutage.US, more than 101,000 California customers were without electricity as of about 3:30 p.m. PT. In the Northern part of the state, over 27,000 outages were reported in Lake County, per the USA TODAY Network’s power outage tracker.

Parts of California’s southern mountains remained under a rare blizzard warning on Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Three million Californians also awoke to a winter storm warning. 

The storm – which first rolled into the state on Thursday with rain, hail and snow – continued to bring unusually heavy snow as well as cold, strong winds, the National Weather Service said. The winter weather was set to continue to into the weekend. 

Southern coastal areas also could face threats from heavy rain and flooding, according to the National Weather Service said.
