Multiple North Carolina agencies are searching for 39-year-old Allisha Dene Watts, whose car was found two days after she was last seen on July 16, authorities said.

Watts was last seen leaving a home in Charlotte in a black 2023 Mercedes Benz GLC 300. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said she was possibly driving towards Moore County, where she lives, the police department said in a news release Tuesday.

On July 18, two days after Watts was last seen, authorities found her car in Anson County, about 60 miles away from her home, the police department said. Family members said Watts’ boyfriend, James Dunmore, was found unresponsive inside the car.

USA TODAY has reached out to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for more information on the case and Dunmore’s status.

“Detectives are following all leads and using all available resources to locate Ms. Watts,” the police department said in a statement on Twitter Wednesday. “Detectives have been in communication with immediate family members of Ms. Watts.”

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police and the Anson County Sheriff’s Office are involved in the search.

Friends, family and community want answers

At a Wednesday press conference held by the National Racial Justice Network, Watts’ friends and family spoke about her disappearance. Her family said Watts lives in Moore County, but travels to Charlotte to see relatives and friends.

Learen Blue, who said Watts was one of her best friends, said there were too many unanswered questions from police in regards to her disappearance.

“We now know where they found her car and the unresponsive man in the car but where is he? Where is Allisha?” Blue said with tears at the conference. “We want everybody to know that Allisha, she’s not just some missing person. She’s an important person to all of us. She’s a daughter. She’s a sister. She’s an aunt. She’s a best friend.”
