Donald Trump took to social media to blast Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for recent negative comments about certain GOP Senate candidates, calling him a “broken down hack politician.”
McConnell had suggested Republican odds of flipping the Senate weren’t as optimistic as the odds of flipping the House, citing “candidate quality” – meaning Trump-endorsed candidates in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Georgia and Arizona who are struggling in recent polls.
“I think there’s probably a greater likelihood the House flips than the Senate. Senate races are just different — they’re statewide, candidate quality has a lot to do with the outcome,” McConnell said, as per NBC News reports.
The former President was not pleased with the commentary, to say the least.
“Why do Republicans Senators allow a broken down hack politician, Mitch McConnell, to openly disparage hard-working Republican candidates for the United States Senate?” he asked. “This is such an affront to honor and to leadership.”
Trump then took aim at McConnell’s wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao.
“He should spend more time (and money!) helping them get elected, and less time helping his crazy wife and family get rich on China!” he added.

Trump Despises Mitch McConnell
The feud between Trump and the Senate’s top Republican, Mitch McConnell, has been ongoing for some time now as the two battle it out for control of the party.
Trump represents the new guard of true America First conservatives while McConnell represents the old washed-up GOP that goes along to get along with Democrats all too often.
This past December, the former President hammered McConnell for making a deal with the Democrats, giving them the votes necessary to raise the debt ceiling.
The deal was a “one-time exception” (cue eyeroll) to suspend the filibuster, which allowed Democrats to vote in favor of raising the ceiling without any Republican votes.
But it’s that kind of maneuvering that gives them a sense of entitlement to keep pressing to abolish the filibuster, and use political tricks like reconciliation to pass the recent tax hike/global warming massive spending bill.

“Mitch McConnell is giving the Democrats victory on everything,” Trump warned in a statement at the time. “What is wrong with this Broken Old Crow?”
“He’s hurting the Republican Senators and the Republican Party,” he continued. “When will they vote him out of Leadership?”
Apparently, not before the old crow goes out and denigrates GOP senate candidates publicly because they might be backed by the former President, instead of unifying the way Democrats always do.
New: Trump revved up his feud w/ McConnell on Saturday — but the latest iteration of the clash comes at a precarious moment for the GOP, which is fighting tooth & nail to flip the Senate as the once high odds of a GOP takeover dwindle.

Future of the Party
Aside from referring to Elaine Chao as crazy, Trump has also apparently taken issue with her not siding with him on certain issues or even allegedly failing to thank him for the job.
According to the Washington Post last April, Trump referenced the snub and pointed out how Republicans never back their own people while Democrats would do anything to push their candidates to succeed.
“If that were Schumer instead of this dumb son of a bitch Mitch McConnell, they would never allow it to happen. They would have fought it,” Trump said referencing efforts to cast doubt on the 2020 presidential election results.
He added, “I hired his wife. Did he ever say thank you?”

Chao resigned one day after the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the Capitol.
The Department of Transportation inspector general previously found that she utilized her department staff for matters related to a family business with connections to China.
McConnell, according to a report in The Hill over a year ago, was seeking to bury “his running feud with President Trump.”
As of today, that feud appears to be alive and well.
