Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of “The View,” was forced into an awkward on-air explanation after making a gay marriage joke directed at Republican Senator Lindsey Graham.
The 66-year-old comedian suggested she’d have to quit the show following the segment, which began by discussing Graham’s proposed federal 15-week abortion ban.
The South Carolina congressman had quite recently discussed abortion by taking the stance that “states should decide the issue of abortion.”
The ladies of “The View” were having a discussion on the matter with White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
“Senator Graham had said maybe about a month ago, early August, that he believes when it comes to marriage, when it comes to abortion, it’s for states to decide,” Jean-Pierre said. “So, Senator Graham, what changed?”
“Maybe he’s getting married,” Goldberg quipped.
Again alluding to gay marriage, she continued: “Do it quick, because I know people are fooling around with our marriage rights, wherever you stand.”

You’ll note in the clip above that the audience loved the joke, as did Jean-Pierre, who definitely had a hearty laugh over the line. But what is so funny about gay marriage?
We know a Republican couldn’t have made that joke. And if they dared to laugh at it? Career over.
Whoopi Goldberg, upon returning from commercial break, had to explain the joke about Lindsey Graham.
“I need to make clear that I was doing what I do as a comic. Sometimes I make jokes, and it was a joke. Nothing more than that,” Goldberg said.
Goldberg hinted that she had been given a talking to during the break.
She explained, “I just got a whole conversation about people misunderstanding the joke.”
“I should probably never do this show again if this is what it’s coming to,” added Goldberg. “It was a joke, guys, you know.”
If a conservative pundit said the exact same thing about Democrat politicians, they would have already been fired or suspended from television.

Liberals Often Make These ‘Jokes’ About Graham
Other prominent leftists have made the same ‘joke’ about Lindsey Graham’s sexuality that Whoopi Goldberg did, most notably when he became one of former President Trump’s most vocal supporters.
The left assumed that Graham, a lifelong bachelor, had to be gay and Trump was hanging that fact over his head. How else to explain his support, they wondered.
“It could be that Donald Trump or somebody knows something pretty extreme about Lindsey Graham,” MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle insinuated. “We’re gonna have to leave it there.”

Jon Cooper, former National Finance Chair of Draft Biden, later chimed in by suggesting Trump knew of some sort of “sexual kink” preference by Graham.
A Republican just told me that he doubts @LindseyGrahamSC is kowtowing to Trump (and indirectly Putin) because he’s being blackmailed over his sexual orientation (an open secret) or even financial corruption. Rather, he thinks it probably involves some pretty serious sexual kink.

Even Representative Ilhan Omar made the ‘he’s compromised’ joke.
Breathtaking bigotry, homophobia from a member of Congress. It’s not funny, and puzzling why Dems get away with outdated stereotypes and dumb conspiracy theories like this. https://t.co/5PePckchHG

Prior to her joke about Lindsey Graham, Whoopi Goldberg has repeatedly found herself in hot water over a series of asinine remarks.
She insinuated during a recent episode that because God gave people “freedom of choice,” he would be understanding and accepting of abortion.

Other instances of Goldberg’s rich history of controversial comments include claims that the Holocaust wasn’t about race, downplaying rape accusations against film director Roman Polanski, and suggesting terrorists should have the right to vote.
