One person is dead and two others were critically injured after a shooting Thursday night inside a hotel room at the Mirage, a well-known casino resort along the Las Vegas Strip, police said.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Capt. Dori Koren on Friday tweeted a suspect was arrested in connection with the shooting and praised work done by the police department, though no additional information was released. 

The shooting was reported at around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Koren said at a news conference. Officers who arrived at the scene found three people shot, Koren said. One man was dead, he said.

The two injured people were transported to a hospital in critical condition. Both were adult women, Koren said.

Police believe the shooting began as an altercation between four people who knew each other, Koren said. During the altercation, one man shot three people, he added.
