A 34-year-old man was rushed to the hospital after an alligator bit his face during a swim in a Florida lake.
Melody Kilborn, Florida’s Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Southwest Region public information officer, told USA TODAY in a statement that the man was bitten around 3:45 p.m. on Aug. 4 at Lake Thonotosassa, near Tampa. A contracted alligator trapper was sent to the lake.
The Hillsborough County Fire Rescue transported the man, who was not identified in the report and was listed as having “injuries,” to Tampa General Hospital.

The incident marks yet another serious alligator attack this summer. An elderly woman died after falling into a lake with two alligators last month. And in May, a Florida man was killed by an alligator when searching for frisbees in a lake.
About 1.3 million alligators live in Florida waters, and 9,442 alligators were killed because they posed a threat to people and their property, according to the commission.
