A woman escaped the man who kidnapped her by jumping out of a moving vehicle when it slowed down on a dirt road, according to police.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office in Washington responded to a call at 4:32 a.m. Saturday about an “in-progress trespass,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The caller said a woman was banging on the door saying she jumped from a moving vehicle after being kidnapped in Vancouver.

Deputies arrived on-scene and found the woman in the front yard. A man approached her vehicle and asked her for water, she said.

She gave him some water and then let him inside her vehicle. He then pulled out a knife and threatened to hurt her so he could take control of the car. The man started to drive with the woman still inside. The woman said when the vehicle slowed down on a dirt road, she jumped out and started knocking on doors for help.

Deputies eventually found the vehicle, which stopped briefly for them and then tried to escape authorities. Deputies said the driver’s description matched the one the victim gave them.

Deputies were eventually able to pin the vehicle when it stopped at 5:25 a.m., authorities said.

The man refused to give his name but was booked into the Clark County Jail as John Doe. The jail is currently waiting for identification results.

He has been charged with first degree robbery, first degree kidnapping, attempting to elude and reckless driving.

The sheriff’s office didn’t identify the woman involved.
