With the Powerball jackpot at an estimated $613 million ahead of Monday night’s drawing, interest is ratcheting up around the nation.

The top Powerball prize has gone unclaimed since Nov. 19, causing the jackpot to shoot past $500 million in recent weeks. The chances of winning a Powerball jackpot are extremely slim, with odds standing at about 1 in 292.2 million.

If someone finally wins the jackpot Monday night, the estimated $613 million would only be distributed if a winner selects an annuity option paid gradually over 29 years. Most jackpot winners opt for the cash option, which was $329 million Monday night, and the final amount taken home depends on state and federal taxes.
