A man is dead after he got his arm caught in the door of a Red Line train as it departed the Broadway MBTA Station, according to authorities.The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) said that shortly after 12:30 a.m. Sunday, a man suffered fatal injuries inside the Red Line tunnel as a train departed Broadway Station.A spokesperson for the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said a passenger got their arm stuck in the doorway of an inbound Red Line train at the Broadway platform, was dragged a short distance and died of their injuries.The victim has not been identified by the MBTA or the district attorney’s office.The MBTA said detectives with the Transit Police Department are working to determine the circumstances that led to the man’s death.In September 2021, a Red Line train derailed at Broadway Station with nearly 50 people on board, but no injuries were reported.Two days before the Red Line train derailment at Broadway, an escalator malfunction at Back Bay Station sent nine people to area hospitals. Some of the people injured during the incident are suing the MBTA and KONE, the contractor hired to maintain the escalators.In July 2021, a Green Line train accelerated to a speed of 31 mph before colliding with another train that was moving at about 10 mph, an NTSB preliminary report found. As a result of the crash, 24 passengers and three MBTA employees were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.The operator of the Green Line trolley during that July 30, 2021 crash faces charges of gross negligence of a person in control of a train, and gross negligence of a person having care of a common carrier. Sources told 5 Investigates that Turner told investigators he had no memory of the crash and may have fallen asleep.Outgoing Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins, now the U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts, launched a criminal investigation into the MBTA in connection with that Green Line crash in July.
