Victoria Beckham naturally had a hand in the luxury fashion that played out at her son Brooklyn’s wedding to Nicola Peltz, but when it came to her own look, it was a VB special all the way.

As the queen of polished womenswear whose outfits always hit a sweet spot between cheeky and classic, Beckham created a dress that looked effortlessly elegant without blending into the background. An evolution of her classic slips (she wore another iteration to British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful’s wedding) but here realized at a couture level, the fabric was inspired by the reflection of moonlight on the ocean at night.

Developed exclusively by one of Beckham’s favorite Como mills, the effect was metallic—indeed, almost liquid-like—and completely head-turning. Three French laces cut meticulously by hand and embroidered onto the shimmering fabric only added to the arresting effect.

There was an element of nostalgia at play in the bespoke piece, which Beckham’s design director Lara Barrio helped her to finesse for the big day in Miami. The slinky yet sophisticated slip echoed the glamour of ’40s Hollywood, but with the boldness of the ’70s club scene. Think shades of Studio 54, but with all the sleekness of brand Beckham.

On the arm of her husband David, who was decked out in Dior by the family’s close friend Kim Jones, the couple looked like the ultimate pair of proud (and very high-fashion) parents. Wedding style is tricky territory to navigate, but when their life is so entwined with the industry, there was no chance of the Beckhams not knocking it out of the park for their son’s celebrations. Keep your eyes peeled on Victoriabeckham.com, too; the designer’s second dress—a black pre-fall number—will be available to buy in June.
