The US soldiers that were killed during a suicide bombing at Kabul airport as the Taliban took control of Afghanistan have been honoured by leaders of the US congress.

Thirteen US service members and 170 civilians were killed in the attack, as people tried to flee the country. In a ceremony at the Capitol on Tuesday, the soldiers were posthumously honoured with a Congressional Gold Medal.

House Speaker Mike Johnson led the ceremony, with speeches from other congressional leaders and the victims’ families.
