Former Federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner has never been one to pull any punches. He used his appearance on Tiffany Cross’s MSNBC show this morning to unleash his outrage regarding Kevin McCarthy and McCarthy’s statement on the day of the FBI search.

From Axios, we revisit the gist of McCarthy’s statement:

“I’ve seen enough. [The DOJ] has reached an intolerable state of weaponized politicization.”

McCarthy said if Republicans retook the House, “we will conduct immediate oversight of this department, follow the facts, and leave no stone unturned.”

Attorney General [Merrick] Garland, preserve your documents and clear your calendar,” he concluded, signaling plans to subpoena Garland.

Many appreciated the irony that McCarthy insisted that Garland preserve his documents, given that the failure to preserve and protect top secret documents led to the search.

Regardless. Kirschner could not have been clearer in his criticism of McCarthy:

Kevin McCarthy is engaged in political thuggery, that’s all this is. He threatened the attorney general by saying you better clear your calendar and preserve your documents.

True. McCarthy released his statement without even knowing what the DOJ sought in the search. For all McCarthy knew, Trump could have been hiding the military’s most tightly guarded secrets, maybe even stuff regarding the country’s nuclear weapons or doctrine, perhaps for sale down the road.

Kirshner went on:

Guess, what Kevin? Attorney General Merrick Garland and everybody at the Department of Justice preserves their documents every day. It is what I did for decades inside of the Department of Justice.”

Do you know who does not preserve documents? Donald Trump and his criminal associates. Instead, they steal — and let’s call it what it is — they steal documents from the White House because none of these documents, setting classification aside, should have been taken from the White House and whisked away to Mar-a-Lago. They should have been sent over to the National Archives, be cataloged and held.”

“Kevin McCarthy has nothing left but hollow threats, political thuggery and he has been on the wrong side of every argument since a couple of days after Jan. 6 six when he had a spasm of candor and good judgment. and said Donald Trump is responsible.

As said above. Could not be clearer. And we still don’t know what went into the affidavit. There is still a lot we don’t know, and it could be even more disturbing than what we learned Friday.
