Late-night TV used to have a purpose. Johnny Carson, and after him Jay Leno, David Letterman in his prime, and for those old enough to remember, Arsenio Hall, were all supposed to be the cap on a long day.
Whatever happened to you that day, you could unwind before bed and laugh for an hour with these guys as they provided entertainment everyone could enjoy.
Now, try finding a night when Stephen Colbert doesn’t have a far-left politician on his show. Colbert and the Jimmys, Fallon and Kimmel, have forgotten what their purpose is.
But that’s opened the door for the right – and one man stepped into the void with historic results.
That man is Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld.
Congratulations to Greg Gutfeld who on cable, beats Colbert on over the air and cable. Hey Steve maybe you should try being funny for a change. #colbert

Greg Gutfeld’s late night Fox show “Gutfeld!” debuted about 18 months ago in the 11 p.m. ET time slot, and is crushing the competition.

It’s the first time a cable show has topped the late-night ratings for an entire month.
Gutfeld! hit the top spot with 2.19 million viewers for August, passing up “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” that came in at 2.15 million viewers.
“The Late Show” has led NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” and ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” since the beginning of 2017.
Fox News issued a statement about the historic achievement, saying:
“FNC’s Gutfeld! made television history, becoming the first late-night cable program to finish the month as the most-watched late-night show in all of broadcast and cable, outpacing CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert for the month of August. This is the first time Colbert has been unseated as late-night’s highest-rated host for a full month in more than five years (January 2017).”
Fox was the third most watched network in prime time, coming in after CBS and NBC.
Another YUGE milestone for @greggutfeld aka the Rodney King of Late Night Comedy:
First Cable Show to beat Network for a month. Although to be fair, Greg has more cable viewers to shoot for now that all 12 Samantha Bee watchers are free agents.https://t.co/bvlgQmO5IU

Hilarity Ensues On “Gutfeld!”
There is a simple reason Greg Gutfeld is killing it in the ratings: he’s funny.
While Colbert got his start on comedies like “Strangers with Candy” and “The Daily Show,” Fallon on “Saturday Night Live,” and Kimmel on Comedy Central shows like “Win Ben Stein’s Money” and “The Man Show,” comedy is really no longer their focus. Left-wing politics is.
And while that might be funny to hardened liberals, the general public just looking to unwind might not find it as humorous.
Gutfeld is funny, and everyone and everything, including himself is fair game. Here are just a few examples:
Gutfeld and crew make fun of lefty outrage over… a birthday party.

Here is Greg’s return to the show after a vacation. His guest hosts got the biggest bang for their comedy buck at the expense of Gutfeld himself.

Greg can usually find something to rib his Fox News colleagues about too.

Here is Greg and fellow Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who is pretty funny in his own right, having a little fun with CNN.

While Greg Gutfeld is leaving those other guys in the dust in the late night time slot, he doesn’t just keep all the funny stuff for late night.
Show should be simulcast on fox tv stations to directly compete with late night shows for non cable subscribers.

Silliness On “The Five”
Before Gutfeld!, there was, and still is “The Five.” Gutfeld is a regular on the panel show that discusses current issues of the day.
Recently, when the show celebrated their 11th anniversary and Gutfeld was absent from the show that day, everyone threw a belated anniversary show just for him.

But whether it is early evening or late night, Greg Gutfeld is crushing the late night competition, and will no doubt be the King of Late Night for quite a while. That must make those liberal network guys cringe. Let’s hope so.
Just like any leftovers, until you dig in, you never know if they’re good … or just plain terrible. Let’s give the jokes we didn’t use this week a try!#Gutfeld pic.twitter.com/IQcigTK6wj
