Organizers with the Mississippi Mudbug Festival announced Sunday morning that the last day of the Mudbug Festival has been canceled. This comes less than 24 hours after police were called to the fairgrounds for a deadly shooting at the event.The shooting occurred just after 10 p.m. Saturday. According to Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones, multiple people were shot at the state fairgrounds Saturday night from several potential suspects.Investigators said the man who died was shot by a member of law enforcement. It is believed that the deceased male was one of the suspects involved. At least four people were transported to UMMC with gunshot wounds.Sheriff Jones said the victims seem to be in stable condition as of Sunday morning.”It’s very devastating and very tragic,” said Sheriff Jones. “This is what’s to be considered a very family oriented event, where families come to enjoy entertainment and food. You have individuals with no regards for the lives and safety of those attending the event. I think that is a very coward and selfish act to involve so many innocent people that are here to have fun and enjoy themselves.” Investigators detained two juveniles and gathered two rifles, one pistol and a vehicle for evidence.The other injured person was an officer. MBI is assisting in the investigation because of it being an officer-involved shooting. “We will find out exactly what happened. We will find out who’s all involved and they should be held accountable and responsible very a reckless incident,” said Sheriff Jones. “Safety is a priority at the Mississippi State Fairgrounds. I appreciate the rapid response from the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office and the Jackson Police Department. Their quick action in securing the scene prevented others from potentially being hurt,” said Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson.Refunds will be available to those that had purchased tickets at the point of purchase by the original method of payment. Ticket holders that purchased tickets through Ticketmaster will automatically receive a refund. Ticketmaster will process refunds to the original method of payment used at the time of purchase. Ticket holders that purchased tickets at the Coliseum Box Office must bring tickets to the box office to receive a refund. The Coliseum Box Office is open Monday through Friday 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
