A man who worked as a handyman for Elizabeth Wiesenfeld and was charged in the Whitehall woman’s death pleaded guilty Monday morning.

Douglas Berry, 50, of Liberty, pleaded guilty to third-degree murder, burglary, theft and receiving stolen property, the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office said.
As part of the plea deal, the DA’s office said it agreed to a prison sentence of 17 to 40 years.
Wiesenfeld, 67, was reported missing in 2019. Nearly a year later, authorities said her remains were found in Plum.

County police have said that the woman was reported missing after she didn’t show up for work and her family couldn’t get in contact with her.
District Attorney Stephen Zappala said the motive appeared to be money. At a 2019 news conference announcing Berry’s arrest, Zappala showed a surveillance image of a person wearing a mask and a hooded coat using Wiesenfeld’s credit card at an ATM on Brownsville Road.
