Two bipartisan Congressional delegations are using their two-week recess to travel to visit refugees displaced by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R., Calif.) took a group of nine lawmakers to Warsaw to meet with Polish officials. The group later went to northeast Poland to meet with U.S. service members and refugees.

“We see the atrocities being committed by Vladimir Putin, and more importantly, we see the bravery of the Ukrainian people,” Mr. McCarthy said on Sunday. “We are here—as representatives of the United States—to ensure we are doing what is right to support Ukrainians as they defend themselves and their democracy.”

A nine-member Congressional delegation led by Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D., Md.) and Rep. Fred Upton (R., Mich.) will go near the Ukrainian border to meet with aid workers, after first visiting Berlin and Copenhagen.

“I am most eager to meet directly with those who have had to flee their homes and communities in Ukraine, to hear from them firsthand about the challenges they are now enduring, and to offer our support while asking what they and their loved ones still in Ukraine need from us in terms of humanitarian assistance,” Mr. Hoyer said.
