People knew COVID-19 might steal their sense of smell temporarily. What they didn’t expect was a long-term condition that would take away the smell of their favorite foods or the people they love.

She never even smelled the smoke. 

By the time she heard the smoke detector shrieking, cake batter was already smoldering on the oven coils.
