Hot car deaths 2022: How many US kids have died in cars this summer?

While the public has little sympathy for parents who leave their children in hot cars, experts reiterate that it can happen to anybody

A 2-year-old boy in North Carolina who went missing and was found in an unlocked car became the 12th child in the U.S. this year whose death was linked to being in a hot car, outpacing the number of cases during the same period last year.

Police said the Scotland County, North Carolina, boy was found in a car outside his home on July 21 and died after being hospitalized for a week in critical condition.
