Halloween is Monday, the only day of the year Americans welcome solicitors at their front door and reward them with free candy.

You’ll be able to collect plenty of sweet treats on Monday, but you might be wondering – can I send mail? What about grabbing a new stack of blank checks from the bank? Or a last-minute costume from Walmart?

The answer is probably yes. Most businesses and essential services stay open on Halloween, even if the seemingly month-long spooky festivities suggest America might get a day off to celebrate the real thing on the 31st.

Here is what will be open on Halloween this year.

Are schools open on Halloween?

As long as it falls on a weekday, public schools have traditionally stayed open on Halloween, as it isn’t a federal holiday.
