A male ocelot kitten was born at the Los Angeles Zoo in September and has been living out of sight of zoo visitors.

Zoo officials say the cub weighted just 19 ounces at birth and will remain behind-the-scenes until he’s fully vaccinated and animal care staff feel confident he can safely move to his outdoor habitat.

Ocelots are found in the wild in South and Central America, Mexico and some states in the US Southwest. The US Department of Fish and Wildlife lists them as an endangered species.
